Civic Projects:

These projects would be for the betterment of society. The projects undertaken vary greatly in size and kind, but are most important for community benefit.

  1. The City Infirmary foundation stone 1766: arranged for this stone to be transferred to post-graduate Sylvester O’Halloran Medical Centre at the Regional Hospital.
  2. The Limerick Association Events: promoted the revival of re-union in Limerick by the arrangement of a three day programme for 95 over sea visitors.
  3. The Schools Art Competition: In 1993, 1994 and in 2008.
  4. Limerick Information Booklet.
  5. Gulbenkian Civic Trust Ireland Awards.
  6. Security systems for old folk houses: the installation of door chain, spy holes and smoke alarms. Phase 1 via Limerick Shannon Rotary Club, Phase 2 via Limerick City Council.
  7. Boat Building: built life-size replicas of traditional Limerick crafts.
  8. Built a laundry building for the Focus refuge.
  9. The Millennium Register: a collection of business and commercial letterheads bound and indexed.
  10. The Lodis Project: sponsoring member of this E.U. initiative for Limerick.
  11. Liszt Concert: organised a commemorative concert of Liszt’s visit to Limerick in 1841.
  12. Arthur’s Quay Boards: researched and designed interpretative boards about the Arthur family.
  13. Indexed Parish and Public Records.
  14. Recorded these records into archive computers.
  15. School Projects.
  16. The Carroll Collection: now on display at the Georgian House.
  17. Limerick Attraction Guide.
  18. The Hall of Fame Portrait Gallery.
  19. The Martin Bourke Series of Profiles. Audio-visual presentationn on the lives and music of renowned singers.
  20. Commemorative Projects for George Alexander Osborne (1806 – 1893)
    1. Repaired the Osborne Family Grave.
    2. Provided an information leaflet on  G.A. Osborne and his family.
    3. Provided a commemorative plaque for the Osborne Grave
  21. Provided a course of training for the Street Ambassadors.
  22. Organised table quizzes about Limerick.
  23. Corbrack House – cleaned and decorated this new refuge building for Focus Ireland.
  24. People’s Park Benches – 1. Installed 21 new benches, which are suitable for the disabled and the elderly, in the park. 2. Provided a circular feature bench.
  25. Catherine Hayes Project:
    1. Restore No. 4 Patrick Street
    2. Established a bursary fund
    3. Develop a Cathering Hayes museum.
  26. The Pery Gate: Built a new entrance into the Peoples' Park at Boherbuoy.
  27. Church Street, Kings Island: Provided window boxes and hanging baskets for each house in the street.
  28. The Peoples' Park: Prepared and sponsored the award entry which won a green flag for the park.
  29. The Hannah Parr Emigrant Ship: Provided a plaque in St. Munchin's Churchyward (C of I) noting the tragic events in 1868 when three infants died.
  30. Secondary Schools Project: Organised a writer's competition for the sixteen secondary schools in the city area including giving an illustrated talk to 1300 students.
  31. Kilkee Community Centre: Prodive musical enternatinment for senior citizens at the centre on a weekly basis.
