He was an only child who was born in Lissenhall in 1989 and spent most of his early years there. He also followed a military career. In 1916 he was one of the 100 successful candidates out of several thousand applicants to be admitted to the Royal Military College at Woolwich. He had a distinguished military career serving in several countries and he fought in both World Wars. After he retired from the Army in 1954 he became a County Councillor for 15 years. He was made a CBE in 1946 and a C.B. in 1951. He married Helena James and they had one child, June, who is the donor of the Carrol Collection to us. He died in 1980.
The memorabilia on display belong to June's father and to her husband, Major James P. Robertson. There is a fascinating school report dated 1902 about Tony O'Carrol Scott when he was just three and a half years old. His many medals and decorations along with his officer's sword are displayed beside a Japanese officers sword and a silver owl which were presented to him. Photographs of both officer's and "Jimmy's" medals and his officer's sword complete this display.
