

In 1898 Florence Kate Carrol married Philip Scott who was the eldest son of Isabel du Maurier and of her husband Clement Scott, the renowned playwright, actor and dramatic critic. Philip joined the Army in 1888. He was posted in South Africa during the Boer War and was officer in charge of Military Postal Services during the Siege of Ladysmith. He served in Mesopotamia during World War I. He retired from the British Army as Brigadier General and lived the last years of his life in France. He died in 1932 aged 61. They had one child Tony who was born in 1899.
This cabinet is dedicated to Boer War memorabilia. Included are his unpublished photographs taken during the siege, a piece of the flag which floated during the siege. His portrait, medals and C.B. Award are also displayed. There is a diary which was kept by his wife Florence during the Ladysmith Siege and a postcard which he sent to his son Tony in 1900.
